Covid-19, Shopping, Cleaning,

Well, we now have one, possibly two cases confirmed in this building. Cheerful news. They have our lobby marked out with red tape on the floor 6 ft. apart. Good idea. I must admit I have been worrying about this a bit all evening. Apparently there are two cases, I checked it out. I don't really know why I ever thought it wouldn't happen, although I guess I knew deep down it was bound to do so.

Our friends collected our shopping today but they will not be doing so again because of the infection here and they are now doing it for their parents. I am glad the parents are, at last, staying at home. They are similar ages to us. I can, at least, do the shopping and leave a lot of it in the car until I  need it. Mind you I didn't get a lot of things again today. Once again, not enough bananas to last more than 3 days. I also ordered some turmeric and I think I have enough now to last me a couple of years or so. Much bigger packet than I realised. I use it quite a lot for curries and such, but not that much. I can't even do small shopping orders any more because it is so difficult to get a time slot.

Tomorrow I am going to strip the beds and hopefully we can make them again between us. Talk about a pair of cripples. I can walk better than Matt but I can't bend down and put sheets on. Wish us luck. Matt thinks he might be able to use our vacuum. I would be very surprised if he can.

I'm afraid I am feeling somewhat depressed tonight, nobody to clean for us, nobody to shop for us, so this is it for now.

Have a great day - stay well, stay safe, stay home.

  1. Sometimes being sad is entirely rational. I am very sorry that you already challenging life has been made harder.
Good luck. I do hope that you CAN make the beds between you. And that the food you need is available.

    1. Thanks Sue, I am still feeling sorry for myself today unfortunately.

Haven't done the beds yet. Putting it off I think.

  2. Hey Jo! Very sorry to read that your building got hit with two confirmed cases. Wishing you all safety and good heath.

Have you made turmeric tea? Wonderful drink. Or turmeric potatoes? Most yummy.

I am so sorry that this is a hard time for you and Matt. I wish I lived close, I'd help for sure.

    Hugs and Bugs, Me.

    1. Yes, bit scary Ivy. No I haven't, need to try it I guess. How do you make turmeric potatoes?

      I know you would, thanks.

    2. I just sprinkle the turmeric in a bowl of potatoes and coat them. I don't tend to use oil that much so usually, it's directly on moist potato chunks but oil would work too. Or even melted marge might work. The stuff that you like.

    3. Maybe I'll give that a go, I would use olive oil I think Ivy.

  3. That is scary to have it in your building. Might be time to grab a face mask (I shared a video on facebook where you can make one out of any sort of cloth...I also read that you can add a coffee filter to the inside to make it even more effective.) Wash your hands. Stay away from your neighbors. Stay well hydrated.

I've become used to shopping for what I can get more so than what I'd like to have. For whatever reason, I cannot get high fiber bread. I never realized it was such a hot item.

I was bumming the last few days. There is the close quarters and the worries for the future on top of that. But we'll get through it. But don't take any chances!!!

    1. I should check out your video Liz. But talking to our pharmacist yesterday he still says it isn't any use wearing a mask if there isn't anything wrong with you. Only if you have symptoms. I know what you mean about shopping for what you can get. Looks like I should get used to it.

  4. So sorry to read this, Jo. I've been in my home now for 17 straight days. Had to stay up to midnight Sunday to get a time for food pick-up next week. I'm going to call the pharmacy this morning and have my two meds delivered. I think we are all going to need a mental health check soon.

    1. My pharmacy always delivers our meds anyway Denise. We both take enough pills to sink a battleship. My next food pick up is the 16th!!

  5. You have every reason to feel depressed, Jo, but I hope that you will find the inner strength to return to your normal self. Life is a challenge for everyone now, but it is magnified a hundredfold for you and Matt. With my very best wishes, David

  6. Hi Jo - life can't be easy for you ... stay safe, don't fret (if possible) and just do what you can do ... all the best - Hilary

  7. I'm sorry! Stay in as much as possible and wear a mask and gloves if you go out. I saw a video on Sandra's site - when bringing home items from the store, wipe down everything that comes in the house and leave other stuff in car or garage until you need them. After a couple days, they will also be safe to touch.

    1. I wonder if that's true that they are safe in a couple of days? They are very careful at our store Alex. The people who do the PC Express all wear gloves and masks to handle what they shop for.

  8. Oh it hurts me to hear all this. I do hope you don't touch anything when you go out, especially handles and buttons in your building! Others wearing gloves doesn't protect you from things touched by them, it protects them. Masks are the important thing for them to wear to protect you. Sooo much information flying around and it's hard to know what is really safe. Washing hands is still the best and strongest protection, so doing it after touching anything is the best safeguard. I am thinking of you and Matt and hoping you were able to make the beds. Wish I could be there to help.... :(

    1. Thanks Lisa. Ladydog directed me to a group on Facebook called Caremongering and I may have found the help I need there. No, it is still not necessary to wear masks if you are not ill. But yes, it is necessary to wear gloves and wash hands, and the gloves of course, don't worry to much I may not have to go out anyway. Although, actually, I wouldn't mind doing so. You and Geoffrey stay well too. Boney I am not so worried about.

  9. I was wondering if there were any groups that could help you but saw that your friend put you in touch with a Facebook group. I know lots of churches here are making themselves and resources available to help all in need of things whether they are believers or not.

    1. I believe churches are doing the same here Betty. People really pull together in a time of crisis.

  10. I hope you have sanitary wipes so when you go into your building and get home you wipe everything down. Or just use a touch of bleach in water with a rag and wipe it down. I hope more people are helping you

    1. Yes I do Birgit, I am pretty careful about the whole thing. How many helpers do you need?
