Escaped Prisoners, Saturday Recipe

I see in the news tonight (Friday) that one of the escaped convicts has been shot to death. It is a very odd incident and one wonders just what part the arrested guards played in the escape.

Here's something special for my last asparagus Saturday Recipe this year. I've got to see if I can get hold of any quail round here.

Marinated Quail on a Bed of Asparagus

Have a great weekend.

  1. I think in the case of the convicts, more than likely you are going to be caught, so why go through all the "hassle" to be out of the run. There's more people looking for you and are refreshed, you are constantly on the go, the odds don't seem too good in your favor.

Recipe looks interesting; just not sure I can cook quail since I rather enjoy watching them as they come to visit :)

    1. You are right Betty, but they still do it. I think that convicts are generally pretty stupid otherwise they would be convicts.

If you buy them already prepared you won't associate the two perhaps.

  2. Have grown asparagus from seed this year, so this recipe will be good for next year :-)

    1. I didn't know you could grow it from seed Lisa, thought you always had to buy the crowns. Best of luck.

  3. I think what surprises me about those convicts is that they didn't get very far from the prison in all this time. I was a little worried for awhile there with Russell delivering to upstate NY (although far from that prison), but I guess those guys only got about 17 miles away. I cannot believe those 2 prison guards were stupid enough to help them. Now they've lost everything.

    1. No they didn't JoJo. I wondered why the guards did help them, money perhaps. We had one female guard here who ended up marrying one of the prisoners once he got out.

  4. I've never tasted quail before. But I was able to pick up two more batches of asparagus last night.

    1. Glad you got some more Ivy. The season for the really fresh stuff is just about over. Our farm will stop selling it on Wednesday.

    2. What do they do with the old bits? I'm making a nice big stock with my ends, now.

    3. Some people peel the old bits, others pickle them. My farm fresh never have old bits, I can eat the whole spear.

    4. Some people do peal them and eat the innards. Thankfully, I didn't have to chop much off, but when I do Bug (our little dog), LOVES them. Or I use them for stock.

Not a drop of waste in my kitchen.

    5. I learned from my gram. We don't waste. Best lesson, ever.

  5. I suspect it's the thought of freedom that inspires escapes but they rarely seem to successfully disappear. People seem to get to a point in their sentence when they just can't stick it - and it's often very close to the end, too.

    1. I don't think it's so much freedom as not liking living in a jail. As Matt says, some of them have it better inside than ever, 3 square meals a day, doctors and dentists of the top calibre, clean clothes, etc. etc. Although as he says, the thing they have to be scared of is the muscle guys.

  6. Oh I thik there are more people involved than we realize...not just the woman guard. They have had to have someone help them out of the drain and then they have remained hidden for quite a while...they could not do this all on their own. I am not too saddened that he has been killed. Now on to better things-I have never had quail. I wonder how much one would need to eat to get ones' fill:)

    1. Maybe Birgit, but I think they would have been well away from the area if that was so. They only appear to have been 17 miles away.

I don't know if we can get it round here. How about where you live? No doubt one could buy it in TO.

    2. I have never looked for quail but I would think it can be found maybe in a specialty shop. You are right about the escapees and thankfully the last one was caught. It seems they were living in the woods.

    3. I must have a look for quail. I don't think they are cheap though.

  7. Maybe they just watch too many movies and as you say aren't very bright to begin with.

    1. My reply went into cyber space. But I think the mere fact they got caught in the first place suggests they aren't too bright Pinky.

  8. Greetings from Noumea Jo. Thank you for the WEP shoutout last post. Appreciate it so much. Seems whenever I travel and only have CNN to listen to there is disaster everywhere. Tunisia, Kuwait, France...oh dear...the world is crazy.

    1. You are welcome Denise. I had to look up Nouméa as I had no idea where it was. We are concentrating on shark attacks on this side of the world.

  9. They just want to escape to test their prowess. They are daredevils who readily take risks. Yummy take on the recipe, Jo!

  10. Hey Jo, I missed your post yesterday. Thanks again for the shout out. I was distracted by the garden, in fact we had a quail in the garden, lovely little fat bird!
