Headache, Alz. Chat., PSWs,

I've had a damned headache nearly all day and can't seem to get rid of it. This morning the PSW came fairly early and after Matt had showered and dressed, we went through his exercise routine. He is still doing the exercises without much protest.

At 10:30 I took part in the spouses online chat and it was nice to see everyone. Discovered one woman lived in Guelph so suggested she could visit me in Guelph General. If I ever get there. Gotta have an EKG first anyway.  Left the meeting a bit early as I needed to make lunch for the pair of us, Matt no longer makes either his lunch or his breakfast.

Later I had a call about more PSWs and was asked if 7 was too early. In the end I said it was. We don't usually get up til about 7. Or I do and get breakfast and then call Matt. Once in a while it would be OK, but every morning at 7, no I don't think so.

This is another favourite recipe.

Asparagus Pesto Toasts

1 lb trimmed green asparagus
1 cup toasted walnut halves (I used pecans)
4 cloves garlic, peeled
2 1/2 tsp salt
3/4 cup olive oil
2/3 cup freshly grated Parmesan
Freshly ground pepper

Cook asparagus until just tender. Refresh in cold water, then drain and dry well. Place asparagus, walnuts, garlic and salt in food processor. Process until blended.

With motor running, gradually add olive oil, then add cheese and pepper. Blend together and check seasoning. Place in covered bowl.

We freeze this in ice cube trays, then wrap the cubes in pairs (separated by Saran wrap) and put in a bag in the freezer until we need it.
Have a great day, stay well, stay safe.

  1. I hope your headache goes away, Jo. It seems to affect everything else you do when your head pounds all the time. As for getting up early I have done so all my life and would have no trouble with it. In fact, generally speaking, I prefer to get stuff out of the way early, so that I have the rest of the day open. To be outside at dawn is perfect for me. But, I understand that if people are not early risers that may not suit them at all.

    1. A good night's sleep seems to have done the trick David, thanks. I go to bed so late at night, about the only time I have to do things like read, after Matt has gone to bed, so if I got up early I wouldn't get much sleep at all. Even getting up at 7 I still get a little time to myself. No point a PSW coming so early when Matt is still fast asleep. I needed you here this morning there was a huge bird flying past and I didn't know what it was. I am guessing a red tail, but it seemed bigger than that. Couldn't see it that clearly.

    2. A Bald Eagle going by would not be impossible, Jo, especially now that young birds are leaving their nests and exploring.

    3. That did cross my mind David, youngsters don't develop the white heads early do they? I think it was big enough. The multitude of squirrels round here had better hide. It was lovely to see if only briefly

    4. It takes them four years to acquire the white head and tail, Jo. I suspect you may well have seen a hatch year bird.

    5. And speaking of early rising, at the other end of the scale I am usually in bed by around quarter to ten, I read for a half hour and generally fall asleep quickly. Often I have a short nap after lunch too if I am home.

    6. Interesting, in fact turns out Matt saw it too. I didn't know they had a white tail too. Not that up on them birdies.

It would drive me nuts to go to bed so early. I do have an afternoon nap, usually, too.

  2. I wouldn't want someone coming over at 7:00 every morning either. Hope you can get rid of the headache. I've been fighting one, too. I think it's sinus some days, tension and stress on others.

    1. Not only that Melissa, one just arrived, unannounced, I didn't know we had been approved for every day. I think with me it is definitely tension and stress.

  3. Like David I am an early riser. Very early. It is not even nearly five here yet. My partner on the other hand is a spring out of bed at the crack of noon person. 7am would be torture for him.
Recurrent/ongoing headaches are a beast. A doctor gave me a trick which (mostly) works for me. Take an anti-nausea tablet (whether you feel sick or not). Half an hour later take your analgesic of choice. I don't know (or really care) why it works but that simple procedure has made a big difference for me.
I do hope you find a solution with the PSW that works for all of you.

    1. You are an early riser Sue, but then I hope you go to bed earlier in order to get enough sleep. Interesting headache trick. I don't often get headaches these days but must try that next time. I appear to have been permitted a PSW every day so that's OK. NOT at 7.

    2. Sleep is a big issue. I DO go to bed early but I sleep in snatches. I rarely (very rarely) get more than two hours in a block.
And a big hooray for a daily PSW. I hope it makes your very hard life a little easier.

    3. Can't the docs help Sue? Two hours is not good. I have had odd nights like that where you toss around and I generally overheat too. Luckily most nights I sleep OK once I get to bed.

Well, at the moment I am teaching them what Matt's exercises are so they can take over. Also, they are supposed to make beds. The one this morning conveniently forgot (I did mention it).

  4. That's understandable that you don't want to do seven each morning. PS: I pressure cooked asparagus in soup this week. Not too shabby. Not too shabby at all.

    1. Yup, not a good idea for us Ivy. For me asparagus is good in everything. I thought the marmalade idea was a good one too. I still love my Instant Pot.

  5. I am in bed by ten every night. Sleep eight hours, sometimes nine. I've never stayed up late unless I was working. In the old days we would have township board meetings go past midnight. A real killer.

    1. You and Matt both Denise. I rarely sleep that long. I have never stayed up late on business, but we used to have all night parties many, many years ago.

  6. I’m so sorry you are dealing with a headache...we are our own weathermen. I remember they wanted someone to come at 7 but my hubby just got on the phone and told them 9 am and that was that. Too bad my hubby isn’t there to be that assertive man you need.

    1. It disappeared OK today Birgit although I did have a touch this evening. Didn't last thank goodness. Good on your hubby. I wasn't too assertive but I did say no to 7. Originally told them around 9 or Matt would be dressed and would not undress for anyone. Who wants to undress and shower in the middle of the afternoon??

  7. Hi Jo - oh I see ... they had let you know a PSW was coming and I agree 7.00 too early - and I see the headache has gone; and glad you had a chance to join in the 'meeting' with your Alz group ... take care - Hilary

    1. No Hilary, they didn't let me know just asked if 7 was too early. I supposed I should have connected the dots. Yes, it is always good to join the meeting of spouses, we are all going through the same thing.
