LHIN, Ops, Asparagus, Jonathan Antoine,

For those of you who do not live in Ontario, we have a group called the Local Health Integration Network, or LHIN. They are supposed to be on top of everyone's illnesses and allocate what help they can. As I mentioned, I called the Mental Health and Wellness line the other night and spoke to a great person named Paula she said, with my permission, she would call the LHIN. Today, whilst we were out, I got a message from the new co-ordinator who is supposed to be taking care of our case, she said she was calling to speak to Paula, gave me her number but did not give me her name. Gives one such confidence.

Tonight I have been arguing with Matt, don't know why I do, but he does NOT understand that if I go into hospital and then need 2 weeks recuperation, he cannot stay here on his own. I don't understand why he still thinks he can. I think Alex's comment yesterday fitted, get some big brawny guys to take him to a home. He understands lots of things but will NOT understand, or cannot, that I have to go have the ops and he CANNOT stay on his own. I even tried the "I would be worried whilst I was in hospital" tactic but that didn't work.

I bought a ton of asparagus today to can - for the Limeys, "bottle". but at this rate I might not be around to eat the stuff. Why do North Americans say "can" we don't, we put it in glass jars.

Got my Jonathan Antoine DVD today so looking forward to watching it. He has such a wonderful voice. Went to play it later and it's a CD not a DVD. Stupid me.

Anyway, I just can't stay awake tonight so no recipe.

Have a great weekend, stay well, stay safe
.

  1. I do understand your worry, and sadly a home for three weeks or so might be the only option.
The english language is seriously weird isn't it? Why do we park on a driveway and drive on a parkway for example?
Sigh at the LHIN. Ringing your number to talk to Paula is inefficient (at best).
    Sleep well.

    1. It is the only option Sue, but....... Now the knee I hurt trying to get into the tow truck is playing me up!!!

      You are right, weird.

Inefficient is definitely the word. Slept OK for a while then Matt kept getting up to go to the bathroom. He then went into the living room at 5:30, sigh.

  2. Hi Jo - I hope the LHIN are able to help - I'm sure they will be ... I expect they're under a huge amount of stress too - and probably didn't expect you to be out. Relax and go with the flow.

Sounds like talking to Matt about anything important isn't 'worth it' now ... easier to - as you say 'don't know why I do it' ... you're keeping yourself both safe by just making plans for the best. I'm sure the helpers will help you at the time by visiting him ... and the Home will be there too ... you're the most important right now.

That asparagus you'll so enjoy later in the year ...

I’m not sure if it was because in the 2nd world war the Americans sent over a number of domestic canning machines … but they eventually ran out and the English just went back to bottling.

The concept goes right back to the Greeks and Romans …but bottling was perfected in the early 1800s by a Frenchman. Shortly after an Englishman adapted the process … but in metal containers – which were similar to tea canisters …hence can came into parlance.

Over time we stuck with bottling, but the Americans developed canning and those domestic canning machines … we just carried on with our bottles, the North Americans with their cans …

Someone else may have another idea ... just look after yourself ... and enjoy that CD ... sorry it's not a DVD - ah well - stay safe - Hilary

    1. No, not really Hilary, he doesn't really understand anyway. Interesting about canning/bottling. But in fact I have never heard of anyone canning in cans here (other than factories), when they say canning they mean bottling.

  3. Dear Jo, I wish I could say something that would make things go smoother for you - hopefully it'll sort itself out before you have to go to hospital.
I've always wondered about the canning thing ... no asparagus in the shops here, not local stuff anyway.

    1. Thanks for the thoughts anyway Fil. It is weird about canning meaning bottling, but Hilary has kind of explained it above.

      No asparagus, tut, tut.

  4. Perhaps I am a troglodyte, Jo, but I have never heard of LHIN! I am glad, however, that it is there for you, and that it is of help. As to the issues with Matt, I am at a loss to offer advice. The very person you are trying to reason with is perhaps unable (and unwilling also) to follow the reasoning. It must be very difficult indeed, made even more so by the fact that your own improved well being is at stake.

    1. They used to be called something else David but I can't remember what. It is the Local Health Integration Network and they cover everything medical in this area. No reasoning does not work, and even if you get a suitable response, it is forgotten 5 minutes later. I hurt my knee trying to get into the tow truck the other week and now, this morning, it is playing me up badly. Such is life.

    2. Such is life. Why oh why do we never say that about the rare days when everything goes well.
I am very sorry to hear that your knee is giving you more grief.

    3. We don't do we, I wonder why too?

Everything is wearing out fast Sue.

  5. You cannot reason with a child. And at this point, Matt is a child. Don't make yourself crazy. Just do what needs to be done. Matt likely won't remember any of it anyway. Sorry for being so blunt.

    1. Not blunt, factual. You are quite right. Must admit I hadn't thought about him not remembering it although 3 or 4 weeks he might remember later. Although when I was in hospital for 3 weeks he doesn't remember a lot about that any more. Gradually fading.
