Imagination, Shopping, Deliveries, Cleaner,

I was quite convinced I had written this blog during the day, came to finish it off and I hadn't written a word yet. My imagination is working overtime.

Our friends' kids very kindly picked up the groceries for us this morning and delivered it right to the kitchen. Wonderful, I was so grateful. I have already posted a new order and managed to get a Tuesday slot. No way I want Thursday again although I guess I could re-arrange my whole life to encompass Thursday shopping. Now, once you have posted your order, you cannot change it in any way or add to it. Covid-10 isn't giving me a lot of problems, but this is one to me. I've got to go to the store anyway because I want a particular size of Glad kitchen catcher which doesn't seem to be online. I can't even find it anywhere else, but the box I have just finished came from my grocery store. I actually use the size for my office garbage can and it is the only one that fits. Prior to someone in the store helping me, I had bought several of the wrong sizes. Also, I can't get disinfectant wipes from this store so I guess I will have to go look for those somewhere.

I got some booze delivered today too. Didn't want to go out and spend time traipsing around the liquor store. I guess we are on self isolation of a kind.

After our cleaner had so unceremoniously dumped us, I phoned the woman who, technically, lives next door and who does cleaning. She agreed to do ours assuming nothing drastic happened between now and a couple of weeks hence. I don't think she realised who I was, we know each other fairly well. I meant to go knock on the door but didn't get a chance today. Had to take our recycling down, for two people we do create a lot of recycling.

One thing I did get from the store today was a large pack of chicken thighs. I was astounded that they had them - or at least that I got them. I hadn't intended to but I ended up making Butter Chicken in the Instant Pot with some of them and put the rest in the freezer.

Damn, I rarely read Facebook for just the reason that I end up reading just one more and then just another. Now it is almost midnight and I gotta get some sleep. So, sorry, no recipe today.

I can't hug anyone right now, so cyber hugs to all of you'

Have a great day

  1. Cyber hugs to you too. At least they are non-infectious.
I do hope your neighbour can clean for you.
Disinfectant wipes cannot be had for love nor money here at the moment - and chicken thighs are in short supply too.
I hope you get a decent nights sleep.

    1. Thanks Sue. I think she will, but I will go see her.
I have a recipe for making them yourself - ladydog sent it to me. I'll send it to you if you like. I'm OK for thighs now.
I do, but I'm still tired.

  2. I had to make my own wipes. I got heavy napkins and poured alcohol on them then stuck them in a zipper bag to carry in my purse so I can wipe down my cart, keys, door handles, etc. I probably look like Howard Hughes! Be careful going out and about!!!

    1. Good idea Liz. I have some recipes for making wipes but this is simple enough. So long as you aren't carrying the Spruce Goose.

  3. Having the kids come right into the kitchen is contrary to recommended procedures, Jo. I trust that you all kept your distance from each other and no one is asymptomatic. Miriam is making masks and donating them to various organizations, and she ran out of the size of elastic she needs, and of course she is unable to buy more at present, so she inquired on Facebook as to anyone who might have some they would be willing to contribute. Someone dropped off a small amount last evening, just enough for three masks I believe, but they just pounded on the door and left a paper bag in the porch. I wear the mask she made for me every time I go into an area where there are people. I realize it is not of surgical quality and does little to prevent airborne droplets, but it has the effect of making it impossible for me to touch my nose or mouth, a great help, I believe. I suspect that it will be many months before we are done with this damn virus! I bought a barbecued chicken at Costco yesterday (best deal in town), we sautéed some potatoes with onions and garlic, and together with green beans it was a fine dinner. There is enough left for at least one more meal and the carcass will be used to make soup. Stay well, Jo.

    1. Yes, they kept their distance and put the bags on the kitchen floor for me to deal with. I did so and then washed my hands. I think you are right about the virus although people seem to think the summer heat will kill it. I wish. I have a super recipe for leftover chicken. It's on this blog somewhere if you are interested. Paul Holliday recipe if you know who he is.

  4. Am I the only one in the world who is not on Facebook? Glad you got your groceries. My freezer is packed and with Blue Apron delivering every week, I doubt I will clear it out anytime soon.

    Stay healthy.

    1. Probably Denise. Mine freezer is pretty well packed with cooked and uncooked foods. I like to cook, it passes the time. We don't have Blue Apron but we do have other similar companies.

You mentioned gnocchi in your blog. One thing I have never got to like.

      You stay healthy too.

    1. Birgit, I have comment moderation turned on because I was getting a lot of somewhat obscene Spam. Will turn it back again later. No, I don't have anyone right now. I am hoping my neighbour will take on the job.

  7. Go out as little as you can. Canada might not be in as dire straits as a lot of other countries, but it's still there and could still explode.

    1. Basically we are self isolating Alex. There are plenty of cases in Ontario at the moment.
