US Social Security, MacDonald’s, Maple Syrup Anyone?

hollow point bulletCBC News reports that US Social Security have ordered 174,000 hollow-point bullets which has sparked a lot of discussion in the media, nobody being sure if they are to be used to control rioting and unruly senior citizens or people with disabilities, etc. There has been such a clamour that the Social Security have opened a web page which explains that it is for the use of their agents working for the office of inspector general who go out into the field checking on fraudulent claims and such. Still seems a bit extreme to me, I can picture a senior citizen hobbling to the door and then shooting the investigator. Not sure how a disabled person could easily go on the lam after attacking one of these armed agents. Jay Leno has also been joking about this.

Well, well, well, who’d a thunk it! MacDonald’s are opening two vegetarian india-mcdonaldsrestaurants in India. Unbelievable. Why can’t they open a few of those over here? I am sure they would be well patronised, there are a lot of people who enjoy vegetarian food even if they are not vegetarian, not to mention the vegans and vegetarians themselves. Actually I’m a bit surprised they have 271 locations in India anyway particularly as it is a predominantly non beef eating country; technically anyway.

Maple syrupCan you imagine, thieves have made off with $30 million’s worth of Maple Syrup from a Quebec warehouse. One wonders what on earth they will do with all that syrup, sell it illegally I suppose? But how many people would buy illegal syrup. Maybe its someone with a very sweet tooth. I just cannot imagine anyone believing this was a haul worth heisting. Years ago we went to a maple syrup farm and I tasted the sap coming out of the tree, tasted like water. Incredible that, by Indians presumably, it was discovered one could make a sticky sweet syrup from this tasteless substance. No-one actually knows how the discovery came about although there are interesting legends abounding.

I couldn’t resist this recipe when I came across it. Smoothies are so popular these days and this makes a good breakfast. Of course you could always make it sweeter with some of that syrup LOL.

  1. Vegetarian McDonald's? Wonder if they'll still find a way to make it unhealthy?

  2. I guess I can see the SS fraud investigators needing protection. I had a friend who did farm fraud, she had some pretty uncomfortable situations with angry thieving farmers.

I sure wish we would have a veggie McD's here!
