Guest Post, Turkey Anyone, Bowling

Actually, I was going to be lazy and not post anything today but then I remembered I am guest posting at The Really Real Housewives of America again so I hope you will visit me there. I have chosen a recipe I am planning to make this week because I saw it made on The Great British Bake Show which I thought sounded delicious. The recipe has a crust to make it into a pie, but as the author said himself, it would make a good dish without the pastry. Paul Hollywood called it Leftover Turkey and Ham Pie.

I sure have plenty of turkey left, as I said yesterday, I ended up with a 17 pounder having ordered a smaller bird. There were only 4 of us and one was such a very small eater. Today we had a delicious turkey soup for supper full of meat and veggies. Yummy. Thank the Lord for still having our balcony though, it has been very useful as a fridge these last few days.

We went bowling today and when we got there it was quiet with not a soul but the proprietor. A
couple of our friends turned up and then all kinds of people until the place was pretty full. I hadn't thought of it but, of course, the alley does feel it when the leagues take winter breaks. It's a lot of customers to lose for a couple of weeks. I bowled moderately well, somebody who shall remain nameless, beat me twice but I managed to retaliate on the third game. I wish we could both of us bowl so well on a league day. Our league will not start again until the second week of January although Matt and I will be there twice a week as usual. Funny, the proprietor was telling us about their family party the previous day and how one of his dogs actually managed to pick up a bowling ball (3.5 lbs roughly) in his mouth and carry it off the bowling area. However, he couldn't put it down so the daughter had to help the dog by forcing his mouth further open. The dog is a setter. I couldn't believe it, nor could they I gather. That's my ball. 3 lb 10 oz or thereabouts).

Funny, the year has almost ended and I suddenly realised I hadn't done our rent cheques for 2017. Unfortunately we cannot persuade the landlords to do bank transfers for the rent. A little backward. So today I had to get 'em done in a hurry.

Any mistakes, apologies, I am tired and was just off to bed.

So all for now, for a recipe go visit The Really Real Housewives of America. Told you I was being lazy.

Have a great day

  1. Back in the 90's when I was treasurer here in West Bloomfield, I had lots of seniors who wanted to have their water bills paid automatically from their accounts. I found a company in the state that performs that service and set it up. To this day I have not had to ever pay my bill with a check. It just happens automatically and I get an email verification. The cost to the township was minimal for the convenience to its residents. Too bad your landlords can't move into the 21st century.

    1. Silly isn't it Denise, the bank does most of the work anyway once it's set up. Friends don't write cheques for their rent, only us. I have complained before now but.....

  2. As you know I love, love, love The Great British Bake Off (that's the original name before it got changed to show). Anyway, great fun glad you're enjoying it. Best show ever.

PS: Yes, egg-free pasta sold here as well but each time I try it, I get sick. But I'm glad because it got me back to pasta making.

    Have a groovy week!

    1. Thanks Ivy. All the measurements in the recipe are metric of course and although Canada is metric too, I am still not really able to "think" in metric so I have just done the conversions for this recipe.

Enjoy your pasta. It looked good.

    2. I'm a metric bakers, 100 percent. Love it. Love it. Love it. Mary Berry is too and I was ever so disappointed when her books finally got here and the weren't in metric. The books I have of hers are, as I ordered them from the UK, back when I got them.

Why do you not bake in metric? Some folks fancy volumn measuremnts.

    3. Basically because I was "brung up" with non metric or avoirdupois and never really adapted to the change Ivy. I have got round to be able to order 250 grams of deli meat or something, but mostly the measures don't mean anything to me. Of course the US is the only country (as far as I am aware) who do NOT use metric and I was happy as a clam with US measures.

  3. There are many ways to use up that turkey and I know you will find a way. Glad you are enjoying your bowling and that doggie loves to play but underestimated the size and weight of the ball:)

    1. You are so right Birgit, I have now made a load of it into the filling for Turkey and Ham Leftover Pie (see above). Tastes delicious.

  4. I've always wondered what it would be like to have a bowling alley all to myself. NOt sure I would want to be alone for long. Wishing you and yours a very Happy New Year! :)

    1. Seems a little odd although we have bowled downstairs on our own a few times David, but we always know there are bowlers upstairs.

I hope you and your family with have a great New Year too.

  6. That is very backwards of your landlords. What a nuisance having to get cheques organised. Sounds like you had a lovely Christmas Jo. It's so funny to read that you use your balcony as a fridge. We are about 28C here in Queensland. I think it's getting to 40C in Sydney today. Yuk!

    1. It is a nuisance Pinky. We enjoyed our Christmas, but next year we will NOT be cooking at home. It's getting to be very hard work for us. Yeah, 40°C is way too warm for me. I feel sorry for the people who's balconies have had their walls removed but have not been finished yet. Neither one thing or the other. I was a bit concerned that the brine for the turkey might freeze, but it didn't.
