Saturday Recipe

This is what we had for supper on Friday night. A simple little dish but very enjoyable. I posted this some time ago so figured it was time to do so again.

Stir-Fried Green Beans with Shrimp and Garlic

2 Tbs vegetable oilstirfryshrimp
3 garlic cloves, minced
1/2 lb large shrimp-shelled, deveined and cut into 1-inch pieces
Salt
1/2 lb green beans, thinly sliced 1/4 inch thick on an extreme diagonal
1/4 cup chicken stock or low-sodium broth
1 Tbs Asian fish sauce
Freshly ground pepper

1. Heat a wok until very hot. Add the vegetable oil and heat until shimmering. Add the garlic and stir-fry for 10 seconds. Add the shrimp and a pinch of salt and stir-fry until the shrimp are just beginning to turn pink, about 30 seconds. Add the green beans and 2 tablespoons of the stock and stir-fry until the beans soften slightly, about 3 minutes. Add the remaining 2 tablespoons of stock along with the fish sauce and a generous pinch of pepper and stir-fry until the shrimp are cooked through and the beans are crisp-tender, about 3 minutes longer. Serve right away.

  1. Looks good! I'm impressed that you still cook. Most of my senior friends go out to eat.

    1. For the type of food we like to eat, it would cost us a fortune. In fact we don't go out to eat much at all and like what we can have at home.

  3. I cooked with a wok for a stint of time. It was a healthy and delicious way to go.

    Happy weekend, Jo.

    1. We used to do a lot more in a wok that we do today. Matt used to cook a lot of Chinese food. Then he stopped for some reason. I also used to make a Yaki Soba which I haven't done in years.

    1. It is Fil. I am thinking it might be an idea to blanch the beans first as they ended up a bit too crispy for me. Matt thought they were fine. I am doing a new Pizzaiola sauce right now for our steak tonight.

  7. I'm with you Jo, I resent paying mega bucks for dishes I can cook at home (as well as, or better than some of our local restaurants) ..but I can't cook a good steak so that tends to be my choice when eating out.
Weather has been good here for last two days (and its Bank Holiday) so we had a BBQ meal tonight (but a very healthy one)!

    1. You can't Sue? I find steak very easy to cook. We like ours rare so my mother told me years ago, heat up your fry pan (iron one) as high as you can then add the steak, sear it on both sides and then cook to the desired doneness. Mind you I can't cook a med/rare.

      Which Bank holiday?

  8. Hi human, Jo,

That's quite the recipe, my human friend. I really should get my human to cook more. A meal like that would be pawfect for Monday, what with it being that long weekend over here in Britain. Yes, I've heard the weather is going to continue to be pleasant over here. Thank you and enjoy your Sunday.

    Pawsitive wishes,

    1. Penny, can you get shrimp on a Monday, I thought the fish shops were closed? Well they used to be when I was there. Didn't realise you had a bank holiday, we had May Day or Labour Day, not really a holiday though.

Lucky you with the weather, it still isn't up to much here. Actually, until the weather is better, Sundays tend to drag. I'm pawsitive that with the better weather, they won't be so long.

  9. That looks like something I could cook (and eat since I'm a seafood eating vegetarian). We call them prawns in Australia but shrimp sounds more appealing for some reason.

    1. When I lived in England Pinky, we had both shrimp and prawns. Two different critters. I always thought shrimp tasted better. We also had scampi which are delicious.
