Today I am supposed to be guest posting at the A to Z blog, I have never done a guest post before so I am doing this flying by the seat of my pants. I plan to start tomorrow's blog by completing the post on the A to Z Challenge from today.

ReplyDeleteThanks Sharon, appreciate you dropping by.
DeleteSorry for the delay. We appreciate the guest post.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if I'll ever get to try this cake as my wife doesn't cook and I usually don't experiment much with cooking anymore, but who knows. I'm always interested in trying new things--or perhaps it's more appropriate to say in the case of a Victorian recipe, something I haven't tried before.

Arlee, its not a Victorian recipe, I must admit I didn't think of posting such. Nor is it a sweet cake but is designed to be eaten with meats of one kind or another. I am posting a pic tomorrow. I actually got the recipe from Viveca at My Guilty Pleasures and she said I might use it. It is a Swedish recipe
DeletePerhaps the name of "cake" is misleading as I would tend to think of a sweet dessert. Even carrot cake or zucchini bread is served more like a dessert. This root cake sounds like it would be served in the way some Mexican restaurants in my area serve what they call "Corn cake". This has a hint of sweetness, but it contains whole kernels of corn and it is served on the dinner plate as part of the Mexican meal. What you say makes sense though--that it would be served as a side dish. It certainly sounds healthier than mashed potatoes or rice which I guess the "cake" would take the place of those starchy sides.

Yes Arlee, you are right. Certainly it might take the place of cornbread 'dahn sahth'. It looks as though it would be delicious and I will certainly be trying it when the vegetables are readily available.
DeleteI love carrot cake and zucchini breads, have you ever had tomato soup cake, neighbour used to make it, I've never tried making it, but enjoyed eating it.
I've never tried tomato soup cake. That's another one that might do with a name change to make it more appealing. But if I see someone else eat it and they like it then I'll be willing to try it.
