Breakfast, Snow,

Breakfast has become a kind of favourite topic for me lately although I have only written about it once. I have a super recipe for tomorrow (I'd already chosen the rice pudding) which I am going to try out. Maybe at the weekend. This morning I had bacon, omelet, Kim Chi and Pancake. I found the Kim Chi went particularly well with the rather bland omelet. Goes well with the bacon and the pancake too LOL.  I must see what else I can dream up like this.

I mentioned yesterday that I had forgotten the bananas in my shopping. I am beginning to think I won't be able to do anything about that today as it has been snowing all night and I don't think the schools are open this morning. I was planning to go bowl a couple of games after exercise class then pick up the bananas on the way back but..... Boy are we getting a lot of snow lately. More than for a few winters now. A number of years ago, when we used to Cross Country Ski, we would have been delighted, but needless to say, we are not involved in that sport any more. Pity, we enjoyed it.

In the end I wasn't feeling up to it anyway so no bananas for us today.

I found a recipe with Star Anise and rice, maybe not the one my new friend mentioned, but I thought it sounded good.

Orange-Star Anise Rice Pudding

3/4 cup basmati rice
2 Tbs super-fine sugar
3 whole star anise
2/3 cup golden raisins
4 cups milk or half and half
Zest and juice of 1 orange
1 oz butter

1. Mix the rice, sugar, star anise, raisins and milk in a medium saucepot. Bring to a bubble, reduce to a simmer and simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring often. Finish with orange juice, zest and butter.

2. Pour mixture into a serving bowl and serve warm or room temperature.

Servings: 6

Have a great day

  1. We have had lots of snow too, but in small amounts. Tomorrow they are predicting up to 10 inches - but we will have to wait and see. I plan to get out and run some errands today - and get more gas for the snow blower.

    1. I can always send you some Hilary. I like to see snow in winter if I don't have to drive that is.

  3. I am not much for the typical breakfast. Most of the times, I feel nauseous when I eat eggs which is weird since i can eat things with egg in it. We are getting snow and more tomorrow. I am enjoying the weather still although we now have a new car so I want to make sure no dings happen to it

  4. You know it's snowing a lot if your schools cancel.

    1. Especially round here Alex, drivers are used to the snow after all, even if you wouldn't know it sometimes.

  5. I think it's kind of pathetic the way schools cancel at the sight of a snowflake. We rarely ever got snow days in the 70s. I'd get sent to the bus stop to wait in the snow for an hour cause the bus was late.

    1. It depends where you live JoJo. There are many country areas where school buses collect kids but it just can't be done in a heavy snow. I am not sure why the local kids can't go but maybe it is something about keeping the students level in their studies.

  6. Romantic as it sounds, I guess snow can be a big nuisance. At least the teachers get the day off. We only get days off for cyclones!

    1. Depends where you live Pinky, round here it has to be pretty bad to close the schools and I believe the teachers are expected to come in anyway.
