Mummy Paint. Monitors, Farm,

Just a quicky, but I was surprised that not one of you commented on the Mummy paint yesterday. I thought it was fascinating.

Thank you all for the concern you showed me though.

Today we went to the cardiac clinic for Matt. This is an annual thing since he had a bunch of TIAs a few years ago. He is now enjoying having two 24 hour monitors strapped to him which he has to return at 8:30 a.m. tomorrow. The beeping is getting to me, dunno about him. Not good for sleeping with.

We then went to Barrie’s Asparagus and I bout 3 $10 bags of asparagus, two for friends. Also more honey and some rhubarb. Tim Barrie is worried because they are calling for frost again tonight.

Asparagus alla Milanese

28 stalks of asparagus, medium sizeasparagus alla milanese
4 Tbs unsalted butter plus 4 tablespoons
4 large eggs
1/2 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese

1. Bring 4 quarts water to boil and set up ice bath. Trim asparagus of hard ends and drop into water. Cook 70 seconds. Remove with tongs and refresh in ice bath. Drain and set aside.
2. In a 10 inch to 12 inch sauté pan, heat 4 tablespoons butter until very dark brown. Add asparagus and toss until warm. Remove asparagus and divide among 4 plates. Towel off saute pan and add remaining butter. Cook until foam subsides. Crack eggs in and cook sunnyside up, about 2 minutes. Place one egg over each plate, sprinkle with cheese and serve.

Servings: 4

Have a great weekend and for my US friends, enjoy Memorial Day.

  1. I forgot all about the mummy paint (EWWWWW) because of your health issues! I just showed my husband this recipe and since we have all the ingredients in the house, I'm going to make it for him right now! I was going to make more of the crispy 'fries' but I think I'll go this route. I was just trying to figure out what to make for breakfast too. Thank you!

  2. I did think the mummy paint was a bit odd, interesting with the color of brown from it :)

Two monitors for your hubby? I'm thinking a heart monitor and a brain monitor??

    yum with the recipe.

    1. Not a brain monitor Betty, there was nothing near his head at all. No idea what they are, one is definitely blood pressure of course.

Very peculiar story about the brown paint.

  3. I didn't mention the mummy paint because I didn't really understand it. Where does the paint come from? The bandages or the bodies? It sounded icky. I love asparagus and egg together :)

    1. I assume it was from the mummified flesh Pinky. Very icky. I gathered from the article that the artists didn't know where it was coming from either.

Previous reader, JoJo, gave that to her hubby for breakfast today.

  4. I meant to talk about the mummy paint and then went on about other things you wrote. I don't think I will do any of my cards with that type of paint:). Those beeps are annoying. My mom had to wear one and I did too for 2 weeks but the beeps were very intermittent. All was aok

    1. I don't think I would use it either Birgit, but I gather from the article that at first the artists didn't know. Not sure how long that lasted.

I had to wear one once for 24 hours. Hated the thing. It's getting sleep which is the biggest problem.

  5. I hope your hubby passed his tests with flying colors! I also hope you're feeling better, and are planning a doctor's visit very soon. The asparagus recipe looks delicious, and seems almost foolproof. Uh oh, I may have spoken too soon!

    1. Don't know yet Julie. No news is good news I guess. He won't see the cardiac specialist til July although if they found something serious they would no doubt have got in touch with us.

I am sure you could do it OK.

  7. I guess the mummy paint was just a bit too "eew". How anyone even thought of making it baffles me.

    1. I think it started with the belief it had medical benefits. Not sure how they changed the idea to paint.
