Yesterday I read a somewhat frightening article by NASA which I really think you should also read NASA Study Concludes When Civilization Will End, And It's Not Looking Good for Us. I have read some scary things about the future, but this isn’t very far away. It is a situation we possibly can do something about but as the article points out, we probably won’t. Personally I am not sure it wouldn’t be too late anyway. I am not quite sure what a hurricane picture has to do with it unless to convey an approaching storm.
Another report from National Geographic is about a great white shark called Lydia who is the first shark to ever be tracked crossing the Atlantic. They are wondering if she is the shark ever to make the crossing. Since being tagged in 2013 Lydia has swum 20,000 miles and from various observations, scientists are beginning to wonder if all the great whites are just one big family. Lydia is closing in on Cornwall, England’s southern coast, I hope the English know about her. I personally don't associate the Cornish coast with great white sharks.
Here’s a really easy recipe, what could be simpler?
No-Bake Cookies
WebMD Recipe from EatingWell.com
Your kids will love helping you make these peanut butter-graham treats. Makes 4 servings of 2 cookies each.
Ingredients
- 8 whole-wheat graham cracker squares, finely ground
- 1/4 cup raisins
- 1/4 cup smooth natural peanut butter
- 2 tablespoons plus 2 teaspoons honey
- 4 teaspoons unsweetened coconut
- Combine ground whole-wheat graham crackers, raisins, peanut butter and honey in a small bowl. Pat into 8 cookies and press lightly in coconut.
No-bake cookies are usually my favorites and yours look delicious.
ReplyDeleteThey do, I haven't tried them as don't need cookies around the house.
DeleteThe days of cross country skiing is behind me, I fear. :-)
ReplyDeleteI've read several articles like this. Problem is people keep thinking that nothing will ever change the earth as we know it and just keep on abusing the earth. She's on overload folks, poor overworked earth. Seriously, it would take a united world of people who cared to modify this and fix the problems. Sadly, I don't see a united city much less world, needed to change things.

Me too, age is a wonderful thing.
DeleteUnfortunately you are so right Sia. Nobody believes anything will change or needs to be changed.
Hi Jo,
ReplyDeleteThe bizarre weather these days is a great worry. You might be aware that the weather patterns on the eastern seaboard drifted over to Britain and we had several severe storms batter the coast in February.
I heard on BBC radio 5 Live about Lydia the shark. Evidently, she is taking a train from Cornwall and going to cause havoc at the Houses of Parliament.
I used to make those type of cookies when I lived in Vancouver.
On a side note, Google Friend Connect is having serious problems. Which means, a lot of us are experiencing problems linking into blogs. When I can, I shall duly link into your site.
Have a pleasant weekend, Jo.
Gary :)
Yes, Gary, we still have family in Kent and they told us a lot including that Maidstone was flooded. Of course other friends told us about their local areas. I think I prefer snow.
DeleteI am glad the radio is broadcasting about Lydia, wouldn't want anyone meeting up with her in the water.
Pity you can't connect with Google. Annoying isn't it?
Pats and scratches to Penny. Hope you both have a nice weekend.
Hi Jo - weather is just plain strange .. and if we as humans can't help ourselves .. I'm glad I've lived my time! Well I hope I've a few/lot more years left - but I'll do my best re Mudway here in Medway, Kent! Cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteIsn't it just. I am the same as you Hilary, but 15 years isn't that long.
DeleteLook forward to your dissertation on the Mudway. If I/we can help in any way on that particular waterway just shout.
That's amazing great whites travel that far. And yet the only jumpers are off Australia and California. I wonder if those don't travel?
ReplyDeleteThe no-bake recipe sounds simple and good.
It is incredible isn't it? Not sure what you mean by jumpers though?
ReplyDeleteThe first doomsday prediction I recall was the coming ice age. I remember reading about it in junior high and being so scared, I'd lose sleep. The coming cold and our growing population had us slated for starvation. Now I do what I can not to be wasteful, but leave the rest to fate to take care of.
ReplyDeleteThat's the trouble Elizabeth, we are all basically leaving it to fate and we perhaps shouldn't. We'll discuss it in 15 years
DeleteDespite the horrible weather predictions, your cookie recipe cheered me up! Hope Lydia is friendlier than she looks.
ReplyDeleteJulie
Well I'm glad the recipe cheered you up. They say Lydia is taking the train to London to stir up the politicians.
DeleteWhat a great story! Amazing how far fish, birds and mammals travel--a 2014 Blog Challenge theme? (Butterflies too, I forgot about the Monarch butterfly).
ReplyDeleteHummingbirds are another species who fly a long way. Incredible journeys. Eels too, yes, you are right it would make a good theme.
