Bowling, Escalation.

Bowling went pretty well for me yesterday, not so for Matt nor for the only other Pin_Animation1member of our team who turned up. I felt quite chuffed. Especially as I did so badly last Thursday. The woman who ran, but didn’t own, our previous bowling alley called in today. Nice to see her, but as she is primarily there, I believe, to make sure we all know she is still planning to build a new alley, we felt she shouldn’t really come in to Towne Bowl. Obviously she wants us all back if she and her hubby do get a new alley going, but I think quite a few people like Towne Bowl so much they won’t move. There are at least 7 people I could name straight away.

Today Stephen Tremp announced the release date for his third book, Escalation. It Escalationwill be on March 10. It is the last book in his trilogy which is based on the premise of the existence of usable wormholes. His ideas are pretty scary and from what he is writing about book three, I think things will get scarier yet. Apparently this book is very far reaching and will include the possibility of a third world war as well as the ability of aliens to visit us through these wormholes which are being used so carelessly. As far as I am aware, nobody has yet come up with such a thing, but I had never realised what wormholes could lead to, pun intended.

Have to get going this morning as I have my diabetes blood test at 8:20 a.m. Fasting for 12 hours before hand. Luckily, these days I can make an appointment, much better than the days when one had to turn up at 6:30 ish in the hopes of being first in line when the doors opened at 7.

Here’s a very simple snacking recipe, especially if you are watching your weight. I have seen cream cheese in celery before, but never the addition of olive slices or, as also suggested, pickled jalapenos. These are 62 calories a serving. I have celery on my shopping list this week anyway, and I certainly have olives. No Neufchatel but I do have Philly cheese.

Frogs on a Log

From EatingWell:  January/February 2011

Give this childhood treat a savory twist by swapping the peanut butter and raisins for cream cheese and olives. For a spicy snack, try chopped pickled jalapenos instead of olives.

1 serving

Ingredients
  • 1 stalk celery
  • 1 tablespoon reduced-fat cream cheese (Neufchâtel)
  • 5 pimiento-stuffed green olives, sliced
Preparation
  1. Spread celery with cream cheese. Top with olives.
Have a great day

  1. I like the celery snack idea - makes a much more interesting hors d'oeuvre than simple carrot and celery sticks when we have friends round for drinks. Could use some flavoured cream cheese like shrimp/prawn and top with small shrimps ... lots of possibilities - thanks!

They'll never replace crisps or peanuts though according to David (he who doesn't really enjoy salad or vegetables) LOL

    1. I must admit I love crisps although not good for me. I just like plain ones, not flavoured and not rippled or ruffled.

Like the idea of flavoured cheese and shrimp on top. I quite often buy smoked salmon Philadelphia cream cheese which would work with a dollop of smoked salmon or shrimp.

  2. Um, yum on the celery sticks. Every year at the holidays we have them, it's cream cheese and... something crunchy, a nut of some kind. So good.

And congrats to Stephen, I know he's put a lot of work into his books.

    1. I've eaten them with just cheese but never with anything on top. I like the idea of shrimp flavours and shrimp topping as suggested by the previous commenter.

      Yes, Stephen writes good stories.

  3. When I was bowling league we had a favorite alley too. Atmosphere was one of the draws.

I do lots of things with celery toppings. I also use olives but I like mixing up a garlic spinach cream cheese topping. It's good and works well with cukes and broccoli too.

    1. We all like the two owners at Towne as well. Father and son, really nice people.

That sounds good too Sia. I must try it.

  4. I adore celery any way Jo except with peanut butter. Love its fragrance in pumpkin soup.

  6. I love bowling, being from Michigan and this is a great winter time sport that goes great with drinking. But I'm not that good. But that's not the point. Just have fun.

And thanks for the shout out for Escalation! I greatly appreciate it.

    1. Oh we do have fun. Don't drink though, it would end up being too damned expensive.

      You're welcome.

  7. I've yet to pick up Stephen's books. That shall be rectified very soon. A few others need to find their way onto my Kindle app too.

Been a while since I've stopped by, Jo. Just popping in to say howdy and North Carolina misses you. :-)

    1. You should certainly get those books, Jeff, a good read. You haven't read the book I gave you yet either, Havenstar. Glenda is a wonderful author.

Nice to see you and I miss North Carolina very much.
