Jackson Memorial, Bowling,
Guess what's on the news today? Michael Jackson and his upcoming memorial of course. The scalpers are out there in full force selling tickets to the memorial service at prices around $25,000 apiece. Anyone who pays that kind of money is off their rockers. I'm sorry but I wouldn't travel that far even if my best friend was being laid to rest and I certainly wouldn't pay that kind of money to attend the service of MJ. After all, what are they going to see, just a bunch of people talking or eulogising him. Sorry folks, MJ himself will NOT be there. Yes, I know there will be lots of other famous people attending and taking part in the memorial, but really!!! I saw one girl (Canadian) on the news last night who had paid around $1,500 for her tickets which, at the going rate, was pretty reasonable, she made friends with another girl in LA who had a hotel room but no tickets so they are sharing. I thought we were in an economic crisis at the moment!!! I must admit I wish I had entered the ticket lottery, I could have made a small fortune even at the risk of being arrested.
I am delighted to report I bowled 60 pins over my average yesterday, pretty good I thought. Unfortunately my team is not at the top of the list although Matt's team is. He tells me that after the way they bowled yesterday, things might change. We have one more game, next week, then the following week we play fun games and have a mini banquet of sandwiches and desserts. Matt and I will be bowling at least a couple of times (bowl ahead games) before the season starts again as we will be away in NC for at least two games plus it does help to keep us a bit fitter. We sure won't be bowling in North Carolina, its all 10-pin there and we don't play that. We did try it a few times, but we much prefer the 5-pin.
I had a recipe ezine from About.com yesterday with recipes for different Mississipi Mud Cakes. So much chocolate I couldn't ignore so here is one which doubly appealed to me due to the whiskey content. As usual the type of whiskey is not specified and I am assuming Bourbon whiskey, but I am sure you could sub Scotch whisky (no 'e' you notice) if you wished or even Irish whiskey which would give a good flavour.
Mississippi Whiskey Mud Cake
Makes 12 servings (one 9-inch round cake)
16 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 tablespoon whiskey
3/4 cup sugar
8 oz semisweet chocolate, chopped
1 1/2 cups hot water
1 1/2 cups self-rising flour
1/4 cup cocoa powder
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Heavy cream, for serving
1 sprig mint, for decoration (optional)
Preheat over to 350 degrees F.
Melt the butter in a saucepan. Add the whiskey, sugar, chocolate and water. Stir over low heat until the chocolate is just melted and the mixture is smooth. Sift the flour and cocoa powder together and gradually beat into the chocolate mixture. Add the eggs and vanilla and beat until combined.
Pour the mixture into a greased and line 9-inch round cake pan and bake for 40-45 minutes, until a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean. Leave the cake in the pan for 15 minutes before turning out to cool.
Serve warm or cold with cream and decorated with a sprig of mint, if desired.
Have a great day.
