Promotion, Olympics, King George VI.

The Ninja Captain, Godfather of the blogging world, Alex J. Cavenaugh, requires a little help from the community. I confess I CasSA Fireforgot and was reminded by reading someone else’s blog. He is being featured in a special promotion by Amazon as follows:
From February 4 – 10, CassaFire will be 99 cents at Amazon and my publisher’s site. This is the first time they have ever run a promotional special like this and have ads running at several sites, including BookBub. I’m the guinea pig, so hopefully the promotion rocks the house!
It’s also featured today at
Kindle Books and Tips.
I have all three of the books in this trilogy, in Kindle form, and have thoroughly enjoyed them. Alex has an original way of thinking and creates a great world out in space. He comes up with a very unexpected twist at the end. Sorry, don’t Tweet.

Watched a little bit of the skating at the winter Olympics on Thursday Russian Pairsnight. The Russian pair Tatiana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov were absolutely brilliant as usual and gave a beautiful performance. The Canadian pair Meagan Duhamel and Eric Radford did an almost faultless skate as well, very impressive. Then there was Evgeni Plushenko who, at 32, is considered an old man in skating. He did an absolutely wonderful skate too and dominated the men’s singles and the opening ceremonies aren’t until tomorrow.

Thursday to me, also, reminded me of the death of King George VI some 62 years ago on February 6. If you were around at the time, it is one of those dates which stick in your mind. Together with a photo taken at the funeral which, they said at the time was somewhat unique with three queens at the graveside, Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and Queen Elizabeth. Quite a sight.

I’m in the mood for chocolate – for a change – so when I came across this one in Cooking.com, I had to share.

Chocolate Peanut Sweeties

5 Dozen

INGREDIENTS
1 cup peanut butter*
1/2 cup butter (no substitutes), softened
3 cups confectioners' sugar
5 dozen miniature pretzel twists (about 3 cups)
1 1/2 cups milk chocolate chips
1 tablespoon vegetable oil

DIRECTIONS
In a mixing bowl, beat peanut butter and butter until smooth. Beat in confectioners' sugar until combined.
Shape into 1-in. balls; press one on each pretzel. Place on waxed paper-lined baking sheets. Refrigerate until peanut butter mixture is firm, about 1 hour.
In a microwave-safe bowl or heavy saucepan, melt chocolate chips and oil.
Dip the peanut butter ball into chocolate. Return to baking sheet, pretzel side down. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes before serving. Store in the refrigerator.
