The BBC gave a lot of heart to many people during those dreadful years. Yes, I agree about the Longest Day. Saving Private Ryan bored me to death I'm afraid. Talking of Holland, I went to a concert here with Andre Rieu and he paid a tribute to Canada (played the anthem) in gratitude to the Canadians involved in the liberation.Johttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14087140585742801854noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2762107274389650601.post-68512874144289630022017-06-07T22:29:55.326-04:002017-06-07T22:29:55.326-04:00My father was not part of D-Day but I remember him...My father was not part of D-Day but I remember him speaking about that day and how much the Canadians were part of that day and not getting the recognition we deserve. He fought afterward and was part of the liberation of Holland and was wounded in the Reischwald forest. My mom remembers being the lookout while her parents and sister listened to a very low volume radio-the BBC, and hearing about D-Day. My mom remembers being ecstatic that the Allied forces pushed through. They wanted the war to end and my mom wanted her brothers to come home( one did and the other didn't). As for the movie...love The Longest Day and consider it the best film about D Day ahead of Saving Ryan's Privates:) the latter film only dealt with D Day for the first 1/2 hour but The Longest Day is really a step by step process of the actual day.Birgithttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09439720285857050428noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2762107274389650601.post-57516383045357341342017-06-07T21:33:27.227-04:002017-06-07T21:33:27.227-04:00My father was an RAF pilot and was in transport co...My father was an RAF pilot and was in transport command so he wasn't involved either Diane.Johttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14087140585742801854noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2762107274389650601.post-14175269007064713592017-06-07T20:27:45.482-04:002017-06-07T20:27:45.482-04:00Fortunately my father was in the Navy at the time ...Fortunately my father was in the Navy at the time and in the South Pacific, so he didn't have to face D-Day.L. I semi watched it. I will certainly be hearing him again, got the DVD and a CD coming. I would think it would be totally bu**ered for that length of time Denise. My very first cookbook said 20 minutes a lb and 20 minutes over which is basically what I have always used. However, these days lamb is served very much underdone. Not sure I actually enjoy it that rare. Like it just pink in the middle. Did you google you recipe, you may find it that way?Johttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14087140585742801854noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2762107274389650601.post-32381039890320100202017-06-07T06:46:22.440-04:002017-06-07T06:46:22.440-04:00I think I will watch "The Longest Day' ag...I think I will watch "The Longest Day' again, or at least put it on my list to watch. I saw that PBS show a while back and really enjoyed it. Have never heard of him again, lol. Yesterday, I asked my sister to send me a copy of a lamb recipe that I have not made for many years as I seem to have given the recipe book away. It said to cook the 4 pound leg of lamb for 2 1/2 hours minimum or until it reached 175 F. Man, I'd be eating shoe leather at that point. Dried up lamb may be why so many folks don't like it.Denisehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15045554938847356871noreply@blogger.com
