When I did go back to the area where I once lived, I was pleasantly surprised, although unfortunately I got bronchitis and couldn't really appreciate it. I would like to go back again. As Satima says, Manchester is a nice city today, I too remember it as a dirty place.Johttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14087140585742801854noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2762107274389650601.post-23882139644687353002009-05-21T02:08:06.341-04:002009-05-21T02:08:06.341-04:00About going back.

Once my husband and I were in Brussels where he (a foreign correspondent) had been based once, and he started to look for a square he wanted to show me. He'd told me about it, described it, the trees, the flowers, the stall where he used to buy an ice-cream on warm summer mornings. Well, we walked about for almost an hour looking for the square, then we found it: it had been turned into a car park. Lesson: Never go Back!Marilyn Z. My mother occasionally took me to Manchester to shop, and a dirty, smoky place it was in those days, with lots of bomb sites.

I went back there in 1995 and was astonished to see how beautiful they'd made it. Clean and bright, it is now, with all the building restored and given facelifts.
