Bowling, Medical Marijuana, Rip Tides,

We did go bowling today and I am delighted to report that I bowled well and maintained my average. I was rather surprised as I wasn't feeling 100%.  Not only that our team took all 7 points too. We were in 2nd place when we started, won't know until Thursday where we stand now.

Was talking to a team member who's wife is on medical marijuana. By the sound of it, I won't get any on Monday when I go, I have to have it mailed to me? Seems somewhat odd. So it could take yet another week before I get it.

Just heard a headline about someone drowning in a rip tide at Emerald Isle, NC.  That was almost our back yard when we lived in NC. They had formed human chains pulling people out of the rip currents. I remember being caught in a rip current myself once, on the island of Malta. Very frightening. I learned then that one should always try and swim across and not against. But I didn't know at the time and was very lucky a chain managed to save both me and my friend. Neither my husband of the time nor my friend's wife could swim anyway and it took them a bit to realise we were in trouble.

I have had a bit of a craving for ice cream lately and I have, in the past, made ice cream with frozen bananas, but this sounds a pretty good version.

Dairy-Free Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Ice Cream

Ice cream equals summer. But for those that can’t enjoy dairy versions, there’s an extremely healthy solution to satisfy your ice cream cravings.
This vegan peanut butter chocolate chip ice cream uses frozen bananas as its base, creating the smooth and creamy texture of regular ice cream, just without the cream (and calories!). You’ll think
you’ve died and gone to heaven after you try this.

Ingredients (1 serving):
2 sliced and frozen bananas
2 Tbs natural peanut butter
3 Tbs raw cacao nibs
pinch sea salt
Drizzle of agave (or maple syrup), optional

1. Place frozen banana slices in a food processor and run the machine until it resembles a crumb like consistency.

2. Add peanut butter, cacao nibs, sea salt and agave, and whiz a little longer until you get a soft-serve ice cream consistency.

3. Tip: You can add many other things to this frozen banana ice cream base. Try candied nuts, almond butter or another favourite nut butter, cinnamon, frozen blueberries, chopped dates, candied ginger… The options are endless.

  1. It is terrifying to be caught in a rip. We live near a popular surf beach which is patrolled but rips can form at any time. In our mid teens my brother and I were caught in one - along with dozens of others who were carried out a long way. Luckily our parents had sent us to classes where we'd been taught how to get out of it so we rescued ourselves unlike the others. It was especially lucky as we caught sight of a small boy who was being swept out near us us and if we hadn't been there he would certainly have drowned.

    1. You were lucky, sensible parents Helen. Mind you I didn't live near a beach so I was totally unaware of such things. As you say, lucky for the small boy.

  2. One of my neighbors orders medical marijuana ointment for his dad. Wonder if it would help my leg which still hurts from time to time.

    1. You have to talk to your doctor first - here anyway Denise.

  3. That's scary you were caught in a rip tide. They warned against those on the Oregon coast as they happen frequently. Of course, the water was way too cold to go swimming in anyway.

    1. I was a tad surprised to see this happening at Emerald Isle Diane. Don't remember any rip tides when we lived there.

  4. You were lucky to escape from the rip tide. thankfully I was never caught in one. My friend, from Vancouver, was when he was in Hawaii. He said he was suddenly taken out into the ocean so he remained calm and swam "with it" until it brought him back in. I would have freaked. I am on the medical mojo and it does help. Yes, they mail it but via special delivery so you receive it in 2 days tops. There is no wring on it to show what it is so that is good. I am with Tweed and I take the CBV (non-high one) 3 times a day which helps with pain. It comes with a "syringe" that you place in the bottle and suck up some oil and then squirt it under the tongue. You start with a small dose first and work your way up until you feel satisfied with that dosage. I also take the THC (high version) at night-once per day and this not only helps with pain but with sleep and it does help. I liked Tweed best which is the company and found them helpful but it is not cheap. I find it worthwhile since i will do almost anything to control my constant pain. It doesn't get rid of it but it calms it down which really helps

    1. That's interesting Birgit, friend at bowling recommended Tweed yesterday. They are in Guelph, unless they have several outlets. Well I guess I will find out next week. The bowling friends (he is on my team, wife takes Mojo) tells me she is on pills these days. I don't have much problem sleeping, it is during the day I hurt so much especially cooking or walking more than a few steps anywhere.

  5. Riptides are scary. We've had two people drown in our local area with the flooding this week. Very sad.

  6. Medical marijuana has been a huge story in the UK recently as one woman had cannabis oil she was bringing into the country for her severely epileptic son confiscated by customs. It's still illegal here. Here's the story www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-44507135 - she's had it returned now and the law is being looked at. As for banana ice cream - I often make it. It's incredible that you can make a really nice ice cream with just one ingredient! Your version looks delicious.

    1. I'm glad she got it back Patricia. Will check the link out later. I am surprised it is still illegal in the UK. Usually more up front. Problem here is expense and until the government gives it a DIN the insurance companies won't help.

Haven't made banana ice cream for a while. Really must do so.

  7. Hi Jo - glad the bowling was successful and thus fun. Ice-cream in this weather is an essential. The sea frightens me - and being stuck in a rip tide would be worrying to put it mildly ... but glad you were both able to 'escape' ... take care and good luck with that marijuana thing ... cheers Hilary

    1. Thanks Hilary. The sea should frighten you, not enough people are frightened of it, I was always bred up to be frightened of it but of course we lived on the water for a lot of years. Very powerful entity.

I hope it will all be settled next week. Fingers crossed.

  8. Have you guys ever tried using cannabis for medical purposes? I have been diagnosed with glaucoma for almost a year now and I've been searching any alternative medicine that can help me then i came across this article that says marijuana can be used to treat and prevent glaucoma. I've been planning to try this kind of strain here in http://www.ilovegrowingmarijuana.com/purple-weed/ but i have no idea where to start or buy. Can you guys give me any tips or any ideas that can help me? Thank you!

    1. I don't know where you are or who you are, but if this is a serious enquiry, consult your doctor.

  9. The ocean is frightening. The rips here are lethal and tourists are always drowning because they just don't understand.

  10. Glad you bowled well. Mailed to you? You don't have shoppes there that serve baked treats and other forms of weed? I also use (in some of my ice creams), the nanner base. It's yummy but can be too banana-eee for some.
