New View, Hiroshima, N. Korea,

As I previously said, they have now removed our balcony wall with the result that we can now see the grass from indoors when we are sitting down. Pity the new railings aren't going to be transparent. When it's sunny, it's a nice view. The large gantry (or whatever it's called) runs from the ground to the top floor and all over the weekend I kept seeing it out of the corner of my eye and thinking there was someone on the balcony. We have sheers (net curtains) on our windows and mainly just see a shadow unless you actually turn round and look.

I was somewhat surprised to discover, on Sunday morning, that it was the 72nd anniversary of
Hiroshima. Not a nice thing to remember, but on the other hand, it is important that we do recall the horror of atomic bombs. Talking of which I am somewhat nervous of Kim Jong-un and his missiles. I don't think he has anything against Canada, but if he fires missiles at the States, he could miss. Mind you if Yellowstone erupts it won't do Canada much good either so what am I worrying about? Looks a sulky bugger doesn't he?

This is a very simple recipe which I found through Yummly at a blog called Plain Chicken.

Chicago Chicken

1 jalapeno (remove the seeds and membranes if you don't want the heat)
Juice of 1 lemon (3 Tbsp)
1 Tbs dried oregano
3 Tbs olive oil
3 cloves of garlic, minced
2-3 boneless, skinless chicken breast

1. Combine first 5 ingredients in the food processor.  Pulse until combined and jalapeno is finely diced.  Pour into a ziplock bag, add chicken.  Toss to coat.  Let marinate in refrigerator overnight and then grill.

Servings: 3

Have a great day

  1. Hi Jo
Yes, N. Korea is very worrying - the world would be a dreadful place if there was a repeat of Hiroshima. What a mess, the times we live in.
Enjoy your view while you have it - must try that chicken marinade - it looks simple enough for a lazy cook like myself. Have a good week. Fil

  3. That chicken looks good. I have a thing about heights and not having the balcony wall there would bother me even if I never set foot outside. That crazy guy in N. Korea is a worry.

    1. I thought so Susan. I am not that good with heights I recently discovered, but the 5th floor isn't that high. Stood on a 12th floor balcony and that did make me stagger somewhat. He certainly is a worry.

  4. If it has jalapeno in it, it's not simple or plain. :) I wish folks would remember. The crazy North Korean? Who knows!

    1. I replied to this once, the cyber bugs must have eaten it. I said that the blog was called Plain Chicken Yolanda. And these days I think adding jalapeno is ubiquitous which makes it simple. As you said, who know.

  5. Your story about your balcony loosely reminds me of the apartment I once lived in. They tore down the neighboring building, and for once I had a view of the mountains right from my balcony. It was beautiful!

...And then a week later they put up a new building and I was back to staring at someone else's wall.

Also, I wonder why they call that Chicago Chicken? I've been making that in Colorado for years. ;)

    1. No mountains to see round here unfortunately. But I sympathise with the story Bryan. The reason the author called it that was that she had a trip to Chicago recently and ate the dish but didn't know what they called it.

  6. I'm terrified of N. Korea. I don't understand why Kim Jong Un hates us so much. Look what they did to that young man...threw him in jail and then let him go after he was in a coma, and now he's dead.

    1. With good reason JoJo. I know, it was pretty terrible wasn't it? And yet he and Dennis Rodman are good friends???
