Warning, Granddaughter,

Saturday we decided to decorate - these days that is a long and painful effort on our parts. We were both bad tempered and fed up when the phone rang and I was a bit frazzled. There was a voice asking if I was me to which I replied yes. They then enquired if I had received the emails they had been sending me about my out of date software and I said no. I did ask if this was Rogers (my ISP) and was told yes it was. You must remember, I was busy and not thinking. I was asked to go to my computer and to check msinfo which I did. Then I was told to start doing other things and I realised what they were trying to do was to get me to download a programme so they could access my computer. So I hung up on them. Phew. If I hadn't "woken up" I might have been in real trouble. I phoned Rogers, and told them what had happened as I wanted them to know there was someone out there trying to hack into my system. The scammer phoned me once more but of course I didn't answer, they phoned me twice more later in the day. I am telling you this so that if it happens to you, you will be warned. And don't think to yourself, I am too clever to get conned that way, I thought I was too.

Our granddaughter - the one who has just had her opening night in We Will Rock You on the cruise ship Anthem of the Seas, had her 21st birthday on Sunday. Her father tells me that passengers on the ship keep stopping her to congratulate her on her performance. Pretty good for a youngster of her age I think.

I had my first taste of pizza some 60 years ago in Paris (France) and didn't much like it. I was with a boyfriend  whom, at the time, I was somewhat gaga about, so I didn't say anything. These days, we very rarely eat pizza although do enjoy it once in a while, a very long while though. To North American pizza fanatics that must seem very odd. I just came across this pizza idea which I thought sounded good. I like goat cheese and figs.

Goat Cheese, Fig, and Basil Pizza

4 oz package dried figs, chopped
1 Tbs aged balsamic vinegar
3 Tbs water
1 large pizza crust or 4 round pita breads
1 cup crumbled soft goat cheese, (a 4-ounce package will yield 1 cup)
3 Tbs chopped fresh basil
1 Tbs pine nuts
1/2 - 1 Tbs  olive oil

1. Preheat oven to 400°F.

2. Combine the figs, balsamic vinegar, and water in a small saucepan over medium heat. Cook 5 minutes, stirring frequently.

3. Place the figs in a small bowl. Season with salt and freshly ground pepper.

4. Top the pizza with the goat cheese and figs, and sprinkle with the basil and pine nuts. Drizzle the olive oil over the top. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until the cheese melts.

Servings: 8

Have a great day

  1. Thanks for the warning. I haven't heard of any similar scam here - although we have enough scammers of other kinds - but they'll come I'm sure.

    That pizza sounds delicious.

    1. I hope you never do hear of it Helen. It is a bit scary how easy it is to fall for what they are saying.

      I thought so.

  2. My neighbor got the scam call again yesterday. The few times I have actually picked up the phone when I don't know the caller ID shown, and some were this 'Microsoft' scam telling me I am sending out strange signals from my computer back to 'Microsoft', I have used some not-so-well-chosen four letter words to tell them what they can do. As for pizza, it is my favorite food, probably cause it sits on bread, lol. But I rarely eat it, even when my son managed a local pizza place, though that is one of the items I made for my birthday. I should do a post about how Little Caesar's changed the pizza landscape in Detroit when I was growing up. Before they came along, you either got pizza at the Italian bakeries or at a local bowling alley.

    1. That's another point Denise, I don't usually pick up the phone with an unknown caller id. I guess I just wasn't thinking. It's funny how pizza is so very popular in North America.

  3. There are so many scammers out there and they are so slick that many people don't wake up u til it's too late. I'm glad you did wake up. I'm starting to decorate and I understand what you are going through. I take a week off now to get things done. Congrats to your granddaughter! She must be happy to be on this ship and to get these compliments...this is the time to be on these ships.

    1. Very true Birgit. I felt I had a somewhat narrow escape. I think taking a week off is a good idea. By the time we finished on Saturday, my back was killing me.

I think it is wonderful that she is being so successful.

  4. Trying to scam you through a phone call is bold. Good thing you caught on and hung up.

We love pizza but I don't think I could get my husband to eat one with figs on it.

  6. Hi Jo - thank goodness I'm pretty aware ... and just not interested if I don't know who it is - or like you and others ... simply don't answer the phone. Good news re your granddaughter ... that's fantastic she's doing so well ... I don't eat pizza that often - but this one sounds good ... I might add a bit of bacon as an alternative ... cheers Hilary

    1. I thought I was Hilary but then I thought it was my ISP anyway. Glad I realised. It is great about granddaughter. Bacon sounds good too.

  7. The pizza sounds interesting. I worry about my husband not catching onto scammers. He's actually learned quite a bit between our kids and me telling him when to hang up and when not to answer. Those criminals get smarter every day.

    1. It does Susan. So long as hubby doesn't do anything with the computer as a result of such calls, like I nearly did.

  8. Pizza is one of my favourite foods but I didn't like it the first time I ate it either. Good on your granddaughter. That's something to be proud of!

  9. It's one of my hubby's food groups, too. And good for him, we have soooo many different places to pick from and not one of them makes the pizza the same way.

Ack about the phone call. Glad they didn't get your goodies.
