Smiley Volcano, Trump Tree, Back Ache,

I was astounded at the Smiley Face in a Hawaiian volcano, Kilauea. I gather the video has gone viral.

This volcano has been erupting continuously since 1983. The video was taken by a local helicopter pilot.

Then there is the tree that looks like Donald Trump. The photograph was taken in Hereford, England by a young photographer.

There is a second picture taken from the other side which still looks like a Trump Tree.

As for my life, not much happening today, it being a holiday. I made some vegetable soup this morning and I have made a discovery, took me a while, but if I stand still in the kitchen chopping vegetables or something, my back ends up killing me. However, when I go to exercise class I am on my feet for much longer, but moving - no backache. Tonight I was waiting for the soup to heat and was jigging around to some music on the radio, guess what, no back pain. Guess I will have to learn to move when I am on my feet.

I remember a few years ago we were hunting for new recipes for pork tenderloin and couldn't find very much. Today things have changed and here is one which appealed to me.

Orange-Teriyaki Pork Tenderloin

2 Tbs dark sesame oil, divided
1 (1-pound) pork tenderloin, cut crosswise into 12 equal slices
1/4 cup lower-sodium soy sauce
2 Tbs mirin (sweet rice wine)
2 Tbs fresh orange juice
1 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp grated peeled fresh ginger
2 garlic cloves, grated
1/2 tsp grated orange rind
1 Tbs sesame seeds, toasted
3 green onions, cut diagonally into 1/4-inch pieces

1. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Add 1 tablespoon oil to pan. Add pork slices to pan; cook 2 to 3 minutes on each side or until done. Remove from pan; keep warm.

2. Add remaining 1 tablespoon oil, soy sauce, and next 5 ingredients (through garlic) to pan; bring to a boil. Cook 3 minutes or until mixture is syrupy. Remove from heat; stir in rind. Return pork to pan, turn to coat on all sides. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions.

Servings: 4

  1. Interesting photos but I have to say that the tree reminds me more of Abraham Lincoln than Trump.

    1. Yes, it does look like he has a beard doesn't it Helen?

  2. I was going to say the same thing as Helen - I see Lincoln instead, especially with that chin.

    1. I guess you could say both of them Alex, the photographer, a young Englishman probably has only seen thousands of Trump pix lately and may not even remember Lincoln pix.

  3. I love pork tenderloin. I might have to try this recipe. I was told that sitting in one position, or standing still, causes compression in the lower spine. Kinda hard to chop vegetables while dancing though.

    1. Me too Denise. Standing still gives me a problem, but sitting doesn't, I stop hurting the minute I sit. You're right it would be difficult.

  4. I love the smiley face! I hadn't seen it yet...it's not been posted by anyone on FB. Maybe someone should chop down the Trump tree so that he doesn't win. lol

  6. That volcano face is nutty isn't it? I believe it has gone viral. All I can say is...poor tree. I should try to move around also since my back, hips and legs really hurt after making lettuce
