Bowling, Cleaning, Politics,

Not the best of bowling days, but the team won all 7 points so we are happy. Now in 5th place tied with 2 other teams. Only one more bowling day for gaining points but at least we are well away from the bottom. Oh yes, Matt won the 50/50 today too. First time our tickets have been drawn. Not a lot of money but....

Our new cleaner came today. Boy does she whiz through the work. She seems very good and I think I am going to be happy with her. At $14/hr instead of $25/hr I am happier too. I don't know how it works but assume they get some kind of payment from the government as well. I cannot imagine these women working for just $14 if the rest get so much more. She will be coming in every two weeks so that is great.

I am somewhat confused lately, I have been getting emails from the Conservative Party and the Liberal Party. The latter Party asking me to donate to them. Are they emailing every address they can get hold of I wonder. I have certainly never expressed any kind of interest in either party, so why are they emailing me. As for donating, they ought to be increasing our pensions not asking for hand outs. I don't really understand why the Liberal Party need to fund raise at the moment anyway, they are the governing body. Not that I pretend to understand politics, 'cos I don't.

I am always looking for different breakfast ideas. Matt seems quite content eating his cereal every day but I get bored with same ol' same ol' for any meal. This one popped up in Yummly the other day so I saved it, of course. This is something from the paleo diet. I don't pretend to know what that is but certainly seems like a healthy enough meal.

Breakfast Stuffed Peppers

4 red bell peppers (any color bell pepper works)
16 oz bag frozen, chopped spinach
4 eggs
Sea salt and pepper, to taste

1. Preheat oven to 400F. Line a baking dish with foil.

2. Cut off the top of each pepper, and remove the seeds.

3. Place peppers into the dish, and bake for about 15 minutes.

4. Meanwhile, defrost the spinach. Squeeze the moisture out of the spinach.

5. Remove peppers from oven and stuff the bottoms evenly with the defrosted spinach.

6. Crack an egg into the top ½ of each pepper.

7. Bake for about 15-20 minutes or until the egg whites are set and not transparent

Servings: 4

Have a great day

  1. I suppose wherever there are politicians, there are hands out.

That's great that you have a cleaner who is quicker and cheaper. Maybe she charges less because she works faster and gets more jobs done? It's a thought.

I never thought to stuff a pepper with breakfast. I'd like that. I have some peppers in my garden. I'll have to try this.

    1. Hm, politics. No Liz, I think she is paid by the Community Access group. In other words subsidised.

I need to get the spinach.

  2. Hi Jo - glad the cleaner seems to be working out. The pepper dish - looks like a good supper dish ... but anywhich way seems to be very tasty. Well done on the bowling too .. cheers Hilary

  3. Pols raise money all the time because elections are very expensive. So glad those days are over for me. I've never had any cleaning help, so I have no idea how much it costs here. I do live in an area where many 'princesses' do not clean, cook, garden, do laundry etc....

    1. You would know Denise. I know little or nothing about politics or how parties are run or funded. I guess I am a princess in that case because I have had cleaners most of my life. Always done my own cooking and laundry though. I hate housework with a passion. Used to have a gardener at one time in the UK. He actually worked for the company and used to come do ours. He was retired from Kew Gardens (assume you know of them) so was brilliant.

    2. I really don't care that they hire everyone to work. It's when they talk to the rest of us like we are peons and fools for doing anything domestic.

    3. Mind you Denise, I have often thought I would like to be rich enough to hire a chef and to tell him to cook Weight Watchers type recipes or something. So easy for rich people to diet. There was a very rich man in England, he used to say it was easy when you could live on caviar and champagne. My type of diet.

  4. That recipe looks interesting, something perhaps to make on the weekend. Glad the new cleaning lady worked out.

    1. I'm thinking of using fresh spinach Betty. She's only been once of course, but seems like a good one.

  5. Any time I sign a petition I end up flooded with emails. I won't do it anymore.

  6. Nice your team isn't at the bottom. That's always discouraging.

It's good you can have a cleaner. I loathe housework, too, always have. Don't mind cooking or laundry but everything else leaves me cold and now I physically can't do much so I'm looking into getting someone again. It would make life so much easier.

    1. Yes, I am pleased we have come up somewhat Heln.

Maybe you can get a government assisted cleaner, do they do such things in Oz. I would have thought so.

    2. They do have assistance for us not so young folk, Jo. that's what I've been investigating.

  7. I'm glad you can go out and bowl and enjoy yourself. She is probably subsidized which works out better for you money wise and it sounds like she does a good job which is even better.

    1. So am I Birgit. We both love to bowl. I am sure she must be subsidized otherwise why would she work for less when others get $25/hr.

  8. Tim can eat cereal each work day morning because for him, it's easy, quick and he doesn't have to think about it. For me, I make food for myself but I eat all kinds of veggies and rice for breakfast, as well as breakfast things.

Very cool about the cheaper cleaner. Wow. So great.

    1. I get so bored with the same thing all the time Ivy. A friend who used to live out east used to make herself really hot and spicy dishes for breakfast

      It is cool.
