Bruise and Bowling, Books, Hair.

My bruise seems to be spreading, it is now quite a bit below the Pin_Animation1[1]back of my knee. My sock was hurting today and I couldn’t think why. Matt says the bruise is shrinking, from what I can see it is increasing in depth and length. What makes you think I will be damned careful not to walk on the lane approach in stocking feet again?? I am pleased to report that my first two games bowling on Thursday went extremely well, however, by the third game my leg was reminding me it was not up to par. That’s my story anyway. Matt was doing much the same. What a pair of cripples. It’s just hit me, this little picture I use shows getting pins on the right, pins on the left and then the headpin. I guess I should look for one that gets a strike or at the least a spare.

Everyone I know, or it seems like it, is releasing a book around about nodagger's path coverw. With all their chat about promotion and marketing, I am getting somewhat lost. However, oDragon of the Stars by Alex J Cavanaughver the next week or two  I will certainly be mentioning people’s books. I hope you will investigate them and hopefully buy them – there are three books coming out which I have already read and which I can, and will, highly recommend. Two you already know about, Dragon of the Stars by Alex J. Cavenaugh and The Dagger’s Path by Glenda Larke. The Dagger’s Path is already released.

I finally got my hair cut on Thursday afternoon. Sounds sill for Long hairsomeone who is retired, but I just haven’t had a chance to go before. I felt as though I could start braiding it. I know they could braid it in the Caribbean, they can braid anything. I tried to re-braid my hair after I had undone it to wash it. Couldn’t do it and I used to wear braids as a youngster. Anyway, it’s cut now and feels so much better. In my very early 20s I had hair I could sit on, I got it cut and have never regretted doing so. I let it grow to shoulder length once afterwards and couldn’t stand it. How these girls can stand all this long hair which is so popular these days and they are forever having to toss it back or push it out of their faces, no thank you very much. Even when mine was long I either braided it or wore it in a bun or something.

Much to my surprise, I am now “into” smoothies. I mentioned a while ago about the one I had invented for myself with greens and skim milk blended with a banana. These days I add a tablespoon of peanut butter as well. The following recipe is one from our local grocery store and they are, of course, touting their products for sale but I am sure your own grocery store has similar items which you could substitute. Meanwhile, I just might try this one. I’ve included the nutritional information as it’s important with a smoothie.

Raspberry Orange Protein Smoothie

Our PC Blue Menu Egg Whites are pasteurized, making them safe to eat as-sold; do not do this with whites from fresh eggs. Fat-free and with no added sugar, this smoothie makes a great breakfast choice thanks to the egg whites which pack a powerful protein punch.

  1. I was given The Dagger's Path for my birthday. Loved it. The only thing wrong with it is having to wait for the next book in the trilogy! I'll be putting up a review on my blog in a few days.

    1. Great book, but what a surprise!! Didn't guess any of that. I do know what you mean about having to wait for the rest. I think Glenda has just about finished it now though.

    2. By the way Helen, I do hope you noticed my name in the acknowledgements? I am always so proud to see it. Nice of Glenda to mention me.

    3. I did notice it and was quite jealous that you had already read it.

  2. I never though of adding PB to my smoothies. I usually just use fruit and yogurt. Maybe a splash of apple juice. My hair is fairly long....I have to put it in 2 braid to sleep at night and usually around the house too. Or pulled back in a pony tail.

    1. I tried Nutella too, tastes OK but makes mine look a funny colour. Less appetising.

By the way hope you do see this. When I talked about your laptop mouse, I should have said the FN key (function) and F9 turns it off.

  3. I love smoothies. We make them all the time.

I love that woman's long hair in the photo. I once saw a woman who had red hair almost that long. I turned to my husband and he said "No way." Sigh. Mine is long enough to sit on though.

    1. Matt's never tried one.

Doesn't it drive you batty? It would me. Luckily Matt is not a fan of long hair, not that I would grow it anyway.

  4. Thanks for mentioning my book!
That bruise will take forever to heal, won't it?

    1. You're welcome. It's a book worth mentioning.

I think you are right Alex, it will take forever.

  5. Prevention.com has about 25 or so smoothie recipes. There are some good ones in there. Although I still use it, my blender is too old. I'm buying the Ninja Nutri-Blender Duo--it has a nutrient extractor for fruits and Veggies. Can't wait.

I had long, beyond the shoulders, hair when I was in my 20' and 30's but my hair has always been so thick and heavy I had to keep it layered. Long enough to sit on would have been too heavy so it never was much longer than below the bra strap mark. Much too heavy to wear up without a headache. Now days I keep it shorter.

I'll have to pick up Glenda's The Dagger's Path. I really enjoyed her other books. Alex's story is very good. I love adventures set in a galaxy far away. This one keeps you turning the pages. :-)

    1. Will check it out Sia. My blender is a tad ancient although it seems to do fine except I do get small chunks of banana in my smoothie.

The Dagger's Path is the second book, did you read the first, The Lascar's Dagger?

    2. No, I didn't realize this one was the second. Thanks for the heads up, Jo!

    3. The first one is called The Lascar's Dagger.

  6. To track whether the bruise is getting bigger or not, mark the edges with a permanent marker. When I bruise, it always takes a long time before the coloring shows up. Usually the time between injury and appearance of a bruise takes so long, I forget how I got the mark in the first place.

There are a lot of new books. You're a sweetheart to help writers out. Getting people to give your book a shout it is what marketing is all about.

    1. I don't think I'll bother, being on the back of my leg I can't see it properly anyway. Matt could do it but don't suppose he will. No forgetting how I got this one, but I know what you mean.

I never mind shouting about books I have read and enjoyed.

  7. My last hair cut was nearly two months ago. These days with my dearth of hair I barely notice that it needs a trim until the fringe around my head starts sticking out like a Bozo the Clown hairdo. Dye it red and put on a big rubber nose and a clown suit and I'd be ready to work children's birthday parties.

    Take care of that leg!

    1. Now that I would like to see a picture of Lee. Friends in NC call it having their ears lowered.

      I will/do don't worry. I'm a big baby with things like that.

  8. We're recent converts to smoothies. Neither of us has eaten breakfast for decades but have been told that David's erratic heartbeat/fluctuations are partly caused by leaving too long between meals.
Our smoothies always contain a banana, an apple and then whatever frozen fruits I have left in the freezer (raspberries, strawberries, damsons) and either yoghurt or semi-skimmed milk. We sometimes add a bit of spring green or a couple of sprouts (which disappear into the overall mix) but I never sweeten them. Makes us feel so virtuous LOL.

    Hope the bruising disappears soon

    1. The one I have been making I started because of getting some green leafy veg into me. I never sweeten that. I don't have any frozen fruit to use. The banana sweetens it enough I think. I have to be careful to make one which is only for me as I know Matt wouldn't try it. Always eaten breakfast. It's the most important meal.

  9. When I was little my mother made me wear my hair short like a boy. It traumatised me. I'd lay awake crying and scared to go to school because of the teasing. That's why at 54 I have long hair. It doesn't suit me short as I have a pin head. I wear it up mostly because it's too hot not too. I didn't even get a bruise from my treadmill fall which has surprised me, The skin on my arm has a buffed appearance though. I hope your massive bruise clears up soon :)

    1. Sorry about that childhood experience. You were lucky to escape without a bruise. Wish there was any sign of mine disappearing. Not much luck at the moment though.

  11. Sorry about your never ending bruise. Though it sounds like it's not slowing you down one bit! I've never been able to sit on my own hair. I'm such a klutz that it's probably for the best. Thanks for the great smoothie recipe. I'll have to try it one day. Take care of yourself, Jo!

    1. Thanks Julie. No idea how long it will keep me company. If you want a simple one just try my own invention. 1 cup skim milk, a handful of greens (kale etc.), a banana and 1 tbs peanut butter. Delicious, good for you and not too high in calories.
