PC Probs, Books, Blind Vaulting.

I seem to be having some kind of computer problems, I have written a post and then it disappeared into cyber space. The next time I tried, half of it was missing, then I couldn’t type any more on the page. So I have no idea whether this one will work or not.

I started by telling you that I am overloaded with actual books at the moment, either Fall of Giantsloaned by friends or from the library. I am reading Calculated in Death by J.D. Robb at the moment – I have enjoyed all her books in this series so far and this one appears to be up to standard. Then I have two huge Ken Follett novels to read, one from the library, The Fall of Giants and the second a loaner from a friend, Winter of the World, the first two books in the Century Trilogy.  I have been reading Ken Follett books over the years and have always enjoyed them too, particularly one of the first which was the Eye of the Needle. There is at least one more book to read and then of course, the Kindle.

Saw an incredible piece on the ABC World News yesterday about a 15 yr. old poleBlind Vaulter vaulter who is not only the best in her school but the best in Texas too. She has jumped 11’6” which is quite some height. However, the most incredible thing about this young woman, Charlotte Brown, is that she is legally blind and cannot see what she is jumping.  She can distinguish light and dark so they line side of the run up in a contrasting colour so she can make out where it is. If you check the link you will see Diane Sawyer in the link from the TV segment.

I regularly receive a blog called Closet Cooking by Kevin Lynch. He produces some very good recipes and lots of great photos. Today, funnily enough, he produced a recipe for asparagus which I have linked you to. Baked Asparagus Fries. To titillate your taste buds, here is one of his pictures.

Don’t they look delicious. I will certainly be trying these. I have found a couple of other recipes, one of which uses almonds instead of Parmesan which would be good for my vegan friends. I have seen a number of different dips suggested too or you could just use mayonnaise if you wanted to.

Have a great day
Jo

  1. Hi Jo - I've been having a few challenges too - but I do write my posts in Word and copy across - then I've got the post safe elsewhere. Hope you can sort that problem out ...

Asparagus - they're saying the crop is damaged beyond repair down here .. and it's still incredibly cold ...

    Cheers Hilary

    1. I write in Live Writer and usually have no problems, but when I posted, Live Writer lost what I had written too. Weird.

Sorry to hear about the asparagus crop. Sorry for the farmers.

  2. I experienced a Blogger Blip when trying to write my post about MayDay Morris Dancers etc - kept losing bits and then the typefaces & colours kept changing ... so frustrating.

I've just made a Gypsy Tart for David!! Its cooling now so hoping it will set properly. It certainly looks the part but the proof of the pudding .... etc

    1. It is frustrating, especially when it happens late at night and then the internet went off and I was on the phone for ever trying to get through to the ISP. Never did, but the internet came back on anyway.

Wish I were there, I don't think I dare make it because I know who will eat it. Matt might have a couple of pieces.

  3. Legally blind - that is amazing. We didn't have women's pole vaulting when I was in school, but the girls on the track team got to try it out one day. I loved it.

  5. That picture and no recipe????? Sigh. One thing I do because of blogger's tendency to eat my words (hahahaha) is to compose in a word processor and then paste into blogger. Blogger also eats my comments daily, so I've taken to copying them before I try to publish them. Which leads to me pasting someone else's comment into my latest comment because I forget it's not my signature I have copied to paste but a whole comment...sigh. TIME. I need more time.

    1. There is a link to the recipe Tina.

I use Live Writer to write my blogs before posting, only trouble is, I guess I didn't save what I had written properly, at least that's what I have figured out. Everything just went haywire. Saturday's blog is posted and OK. So it was just a glitch, I hope.

  6. So enjoy J D Robb, and a blind pole vaulter, amazing, but I still don't like asparagus. :)

Sorry for the computer problems, I understand the stress that can cause, and the time consumption, trying to figure out how to fix it. Can ruin a great day.

    Enjoy your weekend!

    1. I do too, I think I have missed a book. Will have to check it out.

It was more blogger than my systems I think, but seems OK now.

      Enjoy your weekend too Yolanda.
