Tiger Temple or not, Beans and Snow,

For those who don't read the comment section on this blog, I have had two comments from Jane about the TigerTemple in Thailand, which I originally wrote about on December 17. Apparently the report is misleading and Care for the Wild International investigated read report and discovered animal abuse, or quoting Jane "Following repeated complaints from tourists and volunteers working at the temple about tigers being shockingly mistreated there, Care for the Wild International (CWI) undertook an intensive two year investigation. The resulting CWI report reveals illegal wildlife trade, animal cruelty, false conservation claims and visitor safety risks at the Temple." This picture shows an abbot hitting the tigers. If you read Jane's comments there are several other links which you might like to follow. The link I have given you above also shows other stories of animal abuses. I must admit I have never heard of CWI before. World Wildlife Fund is my charity of choice, but CWI seem to do a very good job. Yesterday, I finally made the South Western Bean Salad which I posted on December 29. It is very good and there is stacks of it. We had some as a side last night, and will probably eat some for lunch today. The Gourmet Garden cilantro or coriander in a tube worked very well. So I can recommend it to you. If you like beans, as I do, you really should try this recipe, it is incredibly simple especially made with canned beans. I forgot to mention we have a load of the white stuff again, it was a winter wonderland when we went to bed last night and was still snowing this morning. I don't know what the roads are like, Matt is out shopping right now so will be able to tell me. I have a doctor's appointment in another town so don't know if it will be "driveable". Had to post the picture of the snow rabbit I found last year, I think its cute. Yesterday, I got my tape of Miracle on 34th Street. I watched it last night. Matt thinks I'm a big kid, but I enjoyed it. I will now not have to search the TV channels every Christmas to find out when it is going to be aired, I can play it any time. I have the newer movie with Richard Attenborough, not the original one. I enjoy both movies though. There are things they left out in the newer one which I thought worked very well in the first movie. Another recipe we have made a number of times from my original Weight Watcher cookbook, we have served this at home and taken it to parties, it doesn't appear to be a "diet" recipe and was well received. Now I have reminded myself of it, we will have to make it again. Salad Rice Bowl Weight Watchers - a way of life Serves 2 8 oz cooked rice 8 oz cooked chicken, sliced 2 slices pineapple and 2 Tbs juice (unsweetened) 1 apple, cored and chopped (Golden Delicious works well) salt and pepper 2 Tbs mayonnaise lettuce Combine the ingredients in a large bowl, except the pineapple juice, mayonnaise and lettuce. Mix the mayonnaise with the juice thoroughly into the rice mixture. Serve on a bed of crisp lettuce. Have a great day.

  1. Jo -- Salad Rice Bowl is an age-old French dish: I often have it, made from left-over rice. I'm surprised that Weightwatchers give it, but I will sure be eating more of it now ...

White stuff here too ... and lots of it! This is one really cold winter.

  2. Well there's nothing disasterous in the recipe after all so long as you stick to the portions. I haven't made it in quite a while, not sure why, but I plan to make it again soon.

    Snow in Paris. incroyable.
